Gary Thornton – B.Eng B.Tech C.Eng MIET DCEP CDCDP-MI
Technical Director - CNet Training

A professional electrical and telecommunications engineer with extensive project management and business experience. With a Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a Communications Engineering Degree he started his career in Power Engineering, particularly in protection systems, working on systems from 230V to 400kV.

In 1983, joined a utility company telecommunication department where he progressed to head the operational team of some 80 staff involved in the maintenance and operation of this significant private network. This network comprised copper, fibre, microwave and radio systems and carried all the voice and data services for the company.

He currently acts as Technical Director for Academia Group and CNet Training in the UK and SCD in Holland. He is the lead author of the internationally recognised Certified Data Centre Design Professional (CDCDP) training course from CNet Training and key technical content advisor for CNet Training's Global Data Centre Training Framework. Gary has worked with the European Commission on piloting new data centre initiatives and authored the only British Computer Society ISEB accredited training course on the EU Code of Conduct on Data Centre's Energy Efficiency.
Gary is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET). He is a Member of the British Computer Society a CDCDP Master Instructor and the only non-US DCEP qualified person.

Steve Banks-RCDD CDCDP-MI
Senior Instructor- CNet Training

Steve has been in the ITS industry for nearly 40 years. After 22 years as an apprentice he moved into the design and deployment of large scale secure voice and data solutions for the UK Government. Steve then moved to Alcatel providing technical support to their customer base and other cabling system manufacturers.

Today Steve heads up a consultancy firm based in the UK providing designs, advice, and project management for communications projects to end users, consultants, manufacturers and installers. He has also been heavily involved in BICSI developing manuals and international standards; he is also the Vice-Chair of BICSI Standards Committee, member of the BICSI Data Center Standard, K-12 Standard, and Post Secondary Standard committees.

Kevin Matless RCDD CDCDP-MI
Master Instructor CNet Training

Kevin enjoyed a 22-year career in the Royal Air Force; towards the end of that career he became the Chief Instructor at the Aerial Erector School based at RAF Digby. He also qualified as a City & Guilds fibre optics instructor and an NVQ D32/D33 Assessor.

Following completion of his military service Kevin joined CNet Training in 1998. The following years saw Kevin achieving his Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) credentials, and Certified Design Instructor for the RCDD programme. By 2000, he added the Network Transport Systems speciality (NTS) to his credentials and has continued to develop his career accordingly.

Kevin speaks fluent French; a key factor in his delivery of training courses to a European-wide audience. Kevin is a key member of the CNet Training Course Content Committee, developing the content of the CNet Training data centre course portfolio. In addition to this he can deliver a wide range of other courses from fibre optics, wireless networks and also the RCDD/NTS programmes.

Andy Walls RCDD CDCDP-I
Senior Instructor - CNet Training

Andy started his career as a JIB Apprentice Electrician and progressed to Electrical Technician involved in all aspects of Industrial and Commercial installations.

He progressed to a Site Engineer/Project Manager carrying out various M&E Installations for Computer Room builds Plant Room refurbishments, installation of Chillers, Cooling Towers, Switchboards, Control Panels and various Data and Telecommunication projects. With the introduction of the IBM Cabling Systems (ICS) in the mid 80’s he specialised in Data installations and project managed one of the first ICS roll-out projects throughout the UK.  

In 1996 he joined Molex as a Technical Manager, responsible for the pre and post sales support for Network design and trouble shooting for both Copper and Fibre Structured Cabling Systems and Data Centres throughout Europe. Auditing installations, ensuring compliance with standards and also the installation, set-up and problem determination of IIM systems, switches, racking, hardware and software. Andy was also responsible for client training programs for Copper, Fibre, Blown Fibre, Free Space Optics (FSO), Intelligent Infrastructure Management (IIM) Itracs Hardware and software training.

He is a member of the BSI TCT7/-/1, TCT7/-/3, and of CENELEC TC215/WG 3 Expert Panel to assist development of European and International Standards for cabling infrastructure, design, planning and commissioning.

Adrian Jones RCDD CDCDP-I
Senior Instructor - CNet Training

Adrian joined the Royal Signals regiment of the British Army in 1979, and undertook an apprenticeship as a Telecommunications Mechanic.  Specializing in Outside Plant (Overhead & Underground), Internal Wiring and Internal Cable Systems.  He completed a full and varied career in the military, culminating in senior appointments responsible for the design and planning of major large cable infrastructure projects across numerous theatres.
Adrian progressed to specialise in the Data Centre environment, during which an excellent level of experience was been gained designing and project managing data centre builds, supporting major clients such as the British Government, Ministry of Defence and other highly recognised London based clientele. Adrian has gained a significant and enviable list of globally recognised qualifications in the Information Technology arena.

Kevin Lloyd Bisley RCDD NTS TPM OSP CDCDP-I
Senior Instructor - CNet Training

Kevin is an experienced technical consultant and project manager with a proven track record in a number of B2B sectors including IT, aviation, leisure and telecommunications. He holds a multitude of BISCI qualifications (including BISCI RCDD/NTS) and is a Certified Data Centre Design Professional (CDCDP).

Over the years Kevin has built an impressive portfolio of skills and experience, which is proving valuable to CNet delegates. He has conducted numerous technical presentations globally and created new global platforms for technical reporting, documentation and warranty certification including cabling standards and compliance for data centres. He was also responsible for the introduction of a structured cabling system into Reuters Data Centre, resulting in a worldwide roll-out including within their London centre, and has worked extensively with major service providers such as BT and Colt.

Today, Kevin is a valued Senior Instructor of CNet Training's sought after Certified Data Centre Design Professional (CDCDP) and Certified Data Centre Management Professional (CDCMP) programmes. He also provides valuable advice and assistance for CNet's on-going commitment to course development, ensuring the content reflects the ever-emerging new technologies.

Richard Clark RCDD
Senior Instructor - CNet Training

It all started for Richard within the electrical contracting industry over 25 years ago. Soon after an opportunity arose for him to work for a reputable company within the US, managing their computer room power and infrastructure projects, he decided to relocate.

Richard's career progressed as he became a regional manager for a specialist contractor. Here, he oversaw system design and operations and was responsible for estimating, budgeting and revenue building through commercial contracts.

Remaining in the US, Richard saw a natural progression within the data centre arena and gained the position of regional manager with Data Specialties, Inc. based in California. He worked throughout the US designing and constructing data centres, managing the entire construction for fortune 500 companies DSI.

Today Richard is back in the UK working as an Instructor for CNet Training, sharing his valuable skills and experience with our delegates.

GEORGE A. SALINAS, AIA CDCDP
Instructor - CNet Training

A registered building architect (RA), design & construction principle and consultant to the international design and construction industry, George Salinas has over 25 years’ experience.  His impressive skills portfolio spans the entire industry from IT data center design specialist, technology consultant, construction project manager, including construction of mission critical facilities such as data centers, IT & medical facilities and trading floors.

George has also undertaken key planning and design projects including building performance metrics, sustainable design, energy-efficiency, and turnkey design/build. Building types include IT data centers, 911 emergency facilities, police and fire training centers, judicial facilities, hospitality industry, airports, banks, museums, corporate offices, and urban design. The list is endless and, as a managing principal, he has also developed new building infrastructure strategies including energy utilization and smart building systems.

A true industry professional, he is also an AEC industry leader having served as a NAFTA Representative for the American Institute of Architects between Canada, the US and Mexico.

George has conducted technical and certification seminars for numerous professional organizations including AIA, CSI, AWI, AHI etc, and is the author of “The Process of the Design and Construction Industry”, and also initiated the first electronic product selection and specification system, Electronic Sweet's (now Sweet's Network) for the design and construction industry.  Plus, he has won numerous industry awards such as ‘Distinguished Service, American Institute of Architects’ from AIA Richmond and ‘Consulting Peer Awards for Outstanding Contribution’ from IBM.

It is without doubt that George’s vast experience, impressive skills and ability are a real asset to CNet and we are thrilled to be working with him and playing a large role in spreading his experience and knowledge to other like-minded people within the industry.

Larry Mathewson RCDD CDCDP CET TPM
Senior Instructor - CNet Training

Larry's career began in Canada where he worked for a small manufacturing company as a Senior Engineering Technician.

Later, he advanced to Bell Canada Telecommunications Company where he stayed for some 30 years. Over this time he gained valuable experience within many roles, firstly progressing from Business Systems Installer to Business Systems Manager expanding his knowledge and skills along the way.

Then, in 1994 Larry qualified as a BiCSi Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), a highly sought after qualification, especially so in the early nineties. He decided to complement his RCDD status by achieving the Telecommunications Project Manager (TPM) qualification soon after and, recognising Larry's new skills, Bell promoted him to Project Designer and Project Manager.

His successful career continued as he made the decision to become a Copper and Fibre Infrastructure training instructor. More recently Larry has ventured into the data centre arena by adding the Certified Data Centre Design Professional (CDCDP) qualification to his skills portfolio.

Today, Larry works for CNet Training, delivering our portfolio of courses within Canada.

Dr. Peter Kwan- BSc(Eng), MBA, DBA, CEng, EurIng, PCEng, RPE, REW (B0), FCIBSE, MIMechE, MHKIE

Educated in universities in Scotland and Australia, where Peter was awarded a degree in Mechanic Engineering and Naval Architecture, a First Class Certificate of Merits in engineering mathematics and a degree in Innovations, he has since embarked on a successful and impressive career gaining valuable experience and even more professional qualifications and affiliations along the way.

Peter's experience extends to the Data Centre industry; in his most recent role he has been responsible for the management of 44 data centres across the Asia Pacific region, provided technical advice, been responsible for operational management, communicated the latest data centre practices to Facilities Site Managers and undertook annual auditing. This pure experience is perfect for CNet Training and this is why he is our Senior Data Centre Instructor in Hong Kong. Peter shares his real-life scenarios allowing Data Centre delegates to really benefit and learn from his hands-on knowledge.

Ir. Herman Poon

Herman has an impressive list of professional education, training and qualifications encompassing technical, electronic and accountancy; he has the ability to apply financial elements to everything he does.

Today he applies his portfolio of knowledge and skills by teaching within the Hong Kong College of Engineering. Specialising in Intelligent Building Management Systems and Design in addition to Business Management, Herman's experience is perfectly placed for CNet Training delegates. Wallace Chan

Wallace's career started after formal education in Australia and Hong Kong universities where he gained a degree in Building Services Engineering, a Higher Diploma in Building Services Engineering and became a Master of Business Administration.

With vast project management and design experience, within the retail and banking industry, including the data centre arena, Wallace's experience is impressive and lends itself perfectly to being an instructor for CNet Training. Wallace can apply his skills and hands-on experience to many subjects within CNet Training's course portfolio, including the most popular data centre suite.

He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineering.

C.K. Chan
Instructor – for CNet Training, Hong Kong

Mr Chan is a Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Building Services Engineering, has Endorsement Units in Technical Services and Power Electronics, holds an Endorsement Certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, a Higher Certificate in Electrical Engineering, a Certificate in Electrical Engineering and is an Environmental Officer.

He has gained extensive experience within different aspects of infrastructure projects and now works in an as a Senior Engineer at a E&M consultant firm, mainly involved in the Data Centre/financial institutions MEPF design projects, working with companies such as Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank and HSBC to name a few. He is also a lecturer and Instructor for CNet where he unites learning with this key career experiences, allowing delegates to gain essential insight into real-life working and scenarios.
